Bobcats Roll To Big Win Over Wesley

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State struggled at times during the opening half of play on Saturday against Wesley, but once the Bobcats got in rhythm, nothing was going to slow them down.

Frostburg (9-10, 5-7 CAC) rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit to lead by as many as 21 in the second half. The Bobcats were able to keep their foot on the gas for the entire second half thanks to six dunks that excited the Bobcat Arena crowd.

The Bobcats finished with four of five starters in double figures, led by 18 points from junior Nick Smoot. He handed out a game-high seven assists and drained four three-pointers.

Junior Jerel Carter added 17 points and four steals, while classmates Shawn Henson and David Patrick added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Frostburg, which ended a small two-game skid, scored just 22 points through the first 16:40 of playing time and trailed 33-22 with halftime quickly approaching.

However from that point forward, the game belonged to FSU. Smoot hit a three-pointer at 2:55 and the Bobcats closed out the half on a 10-1 run to trail by just two at the break, 34-32.

Carter opened the second half with a jumper and Patrick hit a three-pointer and the Bobcats never trailed again. Carter found senior Tyler Campbell for a two-handed dunk with 9:14 to play and moments later, Carter found himself on a break away for a dunk that handed FSU a 16-point cushion, 63-47, with 8:29 to play.

With 6:04 remaining in the second half, Patrick hit a layup that gave the hosts their largest lead of the contest at 21, 71-50. Wesley (9-10, 7-5 CAC) slowly chipped away at its deficit over the remainder of the game before the final horn.

JW Lawson led the Wolverines in scoring with 20 points, while Anthony Bowers added 14. Wayne Lennon posted 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bobcats travels to Penn State Harrisburg this Wednesday at 8:00 pm.
