Bobcats Post CAC Shutout

DOVER, Del. – Sophomore Nabayee Tesfu and freshman Rodgrio Valenzuela each scored to lift Frostburg State to a 2-0 shutout of Wesley, Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats push their record to 6-2-1 overall and open league action at 1-0 with their fourth-straight shutout. Wesley slips to 5-3-1 overall and 0-1 in the CAC after being held scoreless for just the second time this fall.

"I was pleased with our intensity and work rate throughout the game," said head coach Keith Byrnes. "I thought we needed to get better possessions once Wesley started to push numbers forward. Instead we defended most of the second half and got caught up playing long ball."

"For the most part, it was good to get a shutout on the road for our first CAC win."

Frostburg took just five shots in the first half and sophomore Nabayee Tesfu headed in a junior Mitchell Muise pass on the team's third shot just 13:07 into the first frame for the 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Wesley came out determined to overtake the Bobcats. WC held a 15-3 edge in shots and led 4-1 in corner kicks. Sophomore keeper Hassan Mostafa made three saves in the second half and freshman Rodrigo Valenzuela added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to seal the win. He collected a loose ball and fired a shot into the upper left corner of the net.

Mostafa finished with four saves for his fifth shutout of the fall season. Ryan Sanders made just one save and endured the loss.

Frostburg looks for its fifth-straight shutout when it travels to Waynesburg this Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
