FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State posted its second-consecutive shutout with a 3-0 defeat of Penn State Altoona, Tuesday.
Box ScoreFrostburg (4-2-1) has exploded for eight goals over its past two games after totaling just three goals over its first five contests. All four Bobcat victories this season have come via shutout.
The Bobcats scored just one goal in the first half, but tacked on two in the second stanza. Freshman Daniel Ramirez scored on a free kick in the ninth minute for a 1-0 lead. He hit a low shot from outside the 18-yard box that found the lower left corner of the net.
Junior Mitchell Muise handed the Bobcats a 2-0 lead just 5:32 into second half action. Sophomore Nabayee Tesfu headed a ball on goal that caromed on the post and directly to Muise, who easily scored on the open net.
FSU's third and final tally came five minutes later when freshman Andrew Beramaschi launched a throw into the 18-yard box and senior Bryan Whitmore buried the attempt in the back of the net for the insurance goal.
Despite a 3-0 Bobcat win, both teams attempted 12 shots and a pair of Frostburg keepers helped preserve the shutout. Sophomore Hassan Mostafa needed just three saves in 74:52 to earn his fourth win of the season, while classmate Jackson Bicknell played the final 15:08 and registered a pair of saves.
FSU returns to action next Wednesday when it hosts Hood at 7:00 pm.
