Frostburg Endures Tough Loss in CAC Opener

ARLINGTON, Va. – Despite the fact that 10 separate Bobcats scored for the Frostburg State women's lacrosse team and an even 10-10 first half, Marymount outscored the Bobcats 7-3 in the second frame for a 17-13 win in the Capital Athletic Conference opener, Saturday.

Box Score

In a high-scoring first half, Frostburg (0-7, 0-1 CAC) claimed the first goal of the day off a free position shot from junior Ellie Garner within the first minute of play. Over the next seven minutes, Frostburg would tack on two more goals for a 3-1 lead over the hosts.

Marymount (3-2, 1-0 CAC) produced a three-goal run at 23:33 to grab its first lead of the game. With 17 minutes left to play, both teams traded goals back and forth fighting to grab an edge. After two FSU scores and one more goal from Marymount, the hosts went on another three-goal run to post the score at 8-5 with 12 minutes remaining.

Over the next five minutes, FSU scored four-straight goals for the longest stretch of the game thus far. Four separate Bobcats, junior Jessica Jones, freshman Emani Byrd, senior Brittney Miller and freshman Taylor Mone each tacked on a goal for a 9-8 lead. Senior Malory Brunett handed out two assists during the stretch as well.

The Saints found the net on two more occasions but junior Emily Walker grabbed the last score of the first half with just three seconds remaining, 10-10.

Bobcat freshman Megan Hart scored the first goal of the second half off a free position shot to give the visitors a one-point edge but Marymount produced an overwhelming five-goal stretch to put the game out of reach for the Bobcats. Although FSU would score twice more, the hosts did as well for a 17-13 final score.

Megan Hart and Walker paced FSU with two goals each. Brunett posted one score, dished two assists, while posting three ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers. In the cage for the Bobcats, freshman Dylan Teitalbaum posted 12 saves while suffering the loss.

Marymount was led by juniors Taylor Johnson and Megan McGuirk who scored four goals apiece. Sophomore goalie Tylar Abrams posted 10 saves in the win.

FSU returns to action on Wednesday, March 19 as they host New England College at 1:00 pm.
