FSU Surrenders Early Lead In Loss To Bridgewater

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State scored the game's first three goals, but Bridgewater rallied and pulled away late in the second half for a 12-9 win, Saturday.

Freshman Molly Hart (28:35), junior Ellie Garner (22:17) and junior Malory Brunett (20:24) scored the game's first three goals as Frostburg State (0-3) set the tone early and built a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles (2-1) answered with a 6-0 run over a 14-minute stretch for a 6-3 advantage with 4:05 remaining in the opening half.

Brunett and freshman Megan Hart closed out the first period with a pair of free position goals that narrowed the Bobcat deficit to 6-5 at halftime.

Bridgewater outscored FSU 6-4 in the second half, but the Bobcats were able to draw within one goal midway through the stanza.

The Eagles opened the second half with back-to-back goals, but junior Emily Walker scored at 19:06 and moments later found Brunett for another goal as Frostburg trailed just 8-7.

Bridgewater answered again, this time with three-straight goals for an 11-7 lead with 10:32 to play.

Brunett and Molly Hart tried to rally the Bobcats once more, finding the net twice and pulling the hosts to within 11-9. However, Bridgewater scored at 5:51 to seal the win.

Brunett scored four goals, added one assist and tied for the team lead with three caused turnovers. Walker finished with one goal and two assists, while sophomore Heather Lowe made eight saves while taking the loss in goal.

Katie Freeman led the Eagles with four goals and one assist, while Jesse Colligan scored twice and handed out two assists.

FSU returns to action on Wednesday at Shenandoah at 7:00 pm.
