THOMASVILLE, N.C. – The Frostburg State baseball team opened its spring 2014 season with a pair of wins over Old Westbury, Saturday. The Bobcats took game one, 7-4, and game two, 13-3.

FSU finished the day with 20 runs on 23 hits as it opened the season 2-0.
Senior All-American Kevin Kean finished the day 5-for-7 with four runs and three RBI. Junior Ricky Brady totaled four hits, three doubles, two runs and an RBI, while senior Dylan Shupe posted four hits, three doubles, three RBI and two runs.
In the opener, Frostburg plated four runs in the bottom of the second to erase a 2-1 deficit. Junior Ricky Castro powered the inning with a two-run double to right center.
Senior Austin Poretz threw 5.0 innings and allowed four earned runs while fanning three for the win. Sophomore Kyle McCormack tossed two hitless innings while striking out three for the save.
In the second game, both teams scored three runs in the first inning. However, the Bobcats allowed Old Westbury to muster just two hits over the next six innings, while FSU plated two runs in the second and fifth innings and six runs in the sixth.
Kean accounted for two of the three first-frame runs as he doubled home junior Kam Stewart and later stole home. Kean singled home Castro for another run in the second inning and he scored a run in the fifth on a single from senior Rob Jennings.
Shupe highlighted the six-run sixth inning when he doubled home Stewart and Castro for the first two runs.
Senior Kenny Georgius picked up the win allowing just three earned runs while scattering seven hits in 6.0 innings of work.
Frostburg State plays Old Westbury again tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 10:00 am.
