Sluggish First Half Dooms Frostburg

ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount jumped out to a large lead in the first half and never let up in a 77-55 win over Frostburg State in CAC women's hoops action, Saturday.

Marymount broke a 6-6 tie behind a 24-2 first-half run that seemingly put the game out of reach en route to its 15th win of the season (15-8, 10-4).

The Bobcats (7-15, 3-11) narrowed their opening half deficit to 14 points with just over two minutes left before trailing 45-27 at intermission.

Frostburg was outscored just 32-28 in the second half and pulled its deficit to 15 points, 53-38, with 11:58 to play. MU slowly extended its lead to 26 points in the closing minutes before winning by 22.

Senior Elaina Hummel led all players with 18 points and needs just 18 more to move into 10th all-time in scoring in women's basketball history. Junior Ronje' James chipped in 16 points, while junior Simone Wise contributed 15.

Marymount shot 51.5 percent (17-of-33) in the first half, including four three-pointers as it jumped out to a 45-27 halftime lead. MU had four players in double figures led by 15 points from Aileen Maknati and 14 Kievanna Lacey.

The Bobcats return to action on Monday when they host Penn State Altoona at 6:00 pm.
