FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior guard Ronje James posted her third-straight double-digit effort, but the Frostburg State women's basketball team (1-5, 0-2 CAC) was unable to overcome Christopher Newport (6-2, 2-0 CAC) Saturday night at Bobcat Arena, 85-49.
Freshman guard Tajaia Tillman opened up scoring for the Bobcats with a jumper 41 seconds in, but the Captains' Camry Green answered with a layup 17 seconds later. Frostburg State would continue to knot the game twice more in the following five minutes, but the game slipped away after Lauren Cox sank two free throws for Christopher Newport to take a 15-8 lead with 10:32 left before the intermission.
Despite a 31-point deficit going into halftime, the Bobcats kept chipping away, more than doubling its first-half points. The Captains kept the pressure on, with Green scoring a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds.
Jordan Miller added 17 points and five rebounds for Christopher Newport.
James and Tillman combined for 28 of the Bobcat's 49 points in the loss. James finished the day with 18 points and four rebounds, while Tillman finished with 10 points and was three rebounds shy of her second career double-double with seven.
The Frostburg State women's basketball team returns to the court Wednesday, December 10 at Bobcat Arena when it takes on Penn State Harrisburg at 6 p.m.
