FROSTBURG, Md. – Sophomore Nabayee Tesfu posted his first career hat trick and the Frostburg State University men's soccer team rallied past York (Pa.) for a 3-2 win in CAC action, Wednesday.
Tesfu scored the only goal of the first half and later scored back-to-back goals in the second to carry the men to an 8-3-3 overall record and a 3-1-1 league slate.
Tesfu, who entered the game with just two goals on the season, found the net for the first time just 2:29 into action when Spartan keeper Charlie Johnson bobbled a pass that Tesfu buried in the net.
York (4-6-4, 1-3-1 CAC) outshot FSU in the opening half, 8-6, but the hosts clung to the narrow 1-0 lead until 56:39 when Ryan Ockford scored off a corner kick to knot the contest at 1-1. Just over five minutes later, York scored on another corner kick as Brandan Saberton grabbed a 2-1 lead.
However, Tesfu had the final say with the game's final two goals. At 74:23, Bobcat keeper Hassan Mostafa sent a kick to the York 18-yard box to a charging Tesfu who flipped a shot over Johnson for the 2-2 tie.
Late in the 82
nd minute, Tesfu completed the trifecta off an assist from freshman Hunter Strine for the 3-2 victory.
Mostafa, the reigning CAC Defensive Player of the Week, made four saves for his eighth win.
FSU returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Salisbury at 2:00 pm.
