Women's Hoops Falls at No. 11 York

YORK, Pa. – The Frostburg State University women's basketball team couldn't find a scoring rhythm in the first half as it suffered a 96-54 loss against Capital Athletic Conference opponent, York (Pa.), Wednesday night.

The 11th ranked Spartans (16-0, 8-0 CAC) overpowered the Bobcats (3-11, 1-7 CAC) in the first half, holding the visitors to just eight points off a 3-for-33 shooting effort. York shot 55.6 percent from the field as it rolled to a 48-8 advantage at halftime.

Despite the first half deficit, the Bobcats almost matched the Spartans in the second frame, scoring 46 compared to YCP's 48 points. Frostburg finally got back into rhythm shooting 41.2 percent from the field off a 14-for-34 second half.

Senior Elaina Hummel paced the Bobcats in scoring, posting 17 points. Hummel produced an unblemished 8-for-8 from the foul line, her eighth game of the year with a perfect free throw shooting percentage. Hummel currently stands at 14th in the country in free throw shooting percentage (90.1%).

Junior Jasmine Walker poured in 13 points while collecting seven rebounds and six steals as classmate Simone Wise contributed 12 points. Sophomore Deara Parker controlled the paint with a game-high 11 rebounds.

Three Spartans posted double-figures, as senior Kelsey Murphy led all scorers with 20 points. Senior Brittany Hicks tallied 14 points and nine rebounds while junior Jess Selby donated 12 points.

The Bobcats return to action this Saturday (Jan. 25) as they host CAC opponent Christopher Newport at 1:00 pm.
