Box Score

Along with Hummel, Frostburg (3-9) had three other players reach double-figures. Junior guard Simone Wise scored 15 points, her ninth time this season earning double-digits. Junior guard Ronje' James and sophomore forward Courtney Young also contributed 10 points each.

The Bobcats took the reins as soon as play began, grabbing a 14-point lead in the first eight minutes of action.

Southern Virginia (2-10) scored back-to-back layups by sophomore forwards Melynda Boren and Crystal Cleveland to help kickstart a run for the Knights at 9:44. The visitors capped their run with a three-pointer by freshman Shanteya Holder to bring the game to single-digits, 18-11, with 8:15 showing.

Hummel answered back just 19 seconds later with her own long range score and the scoring tandem of Hummel and Wise went to work. Wise hit back-to-back mid-range jumpers and Hummel piled on another three-pointer and a lay-up to give the Bobcats a solid 17-point cushion with six minutes remaining in the first half.

The Bobcats grew their lead to 19, 38-19, heading into halftime but the Knights came out of the locker room ready to battle in the second half. Southern Virginia strung together a 15-4 run in the first six minutes of the first half, to bring the deficit to just eight points, 45-34.

Frostburg quickly regained control and continued to grow their lead, eventually creating a 25-point advantage, 76-51 as time ran out.

FSU took advantage of the Knights' mishaps, turning 30 turnovers into 26 points. In addition, the Bobcats held a commanding lead in second-chance points (23-6) despite SVU holding a slim lead in total rebounds (47-46). Three separate Bobcats paced FSU's rebounding efforts as junior Jasmine Walker, freshman Alexus Brandon and junior Bobbi McDonald each grabbed six rebounds.

Southern Virginia was led by freshman guard Morgan Hartvigsen who scored 12. The Knights' starting forwards, Cleveland and sophomore Shannon Romito held the rebounding reins, pulling in 11 and 10, respectfully.

The Bobcats return to Capital Athletic Conference action as they travel to Salisbury, this Saturday (Jan. 18) at 1:00 pm.
