Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Mary Washington; Eliminated from CAC Tournament

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Frostburg State University women’s lacrosse team was eliminated from the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament with a 22-3 setback to Mary Washington in the opening round, Wednesday afternoon. The loss also ends the season for the Bobcats who finish 5-11 overall.

The third seeded Eagles (11-6) opened up the game with 13 straight goals before the sixth seeded Bobcats found the last goal of the first half to post a 13-1 score at the break. Senior Taylor Cassatt scored her 26th goal of the season, off an assist from classmate Chelsea Feeney. Feeney currently stands fourth in the CAC assist leaderboard with 25.

Mary Washington scored the first two goals out of the gate to begin the second half. Senior Katelyn Kesecker answered with a goal off a free position shot. The Eagles then countered with three more goals before sophomore Emily Walker scored with 9:34 left showing for an 18-3 deficit.

The Bobcats had no defensive stop for the Eagles as they scored four more goals to post the final score at 22-3.

Senior goalie Naomi Swann notched 12 saves in the net for the Bobcats.

UMW was led by Jenna Petrucelli who scored a game-high nine goals, along with two ground balls and nine draw controls. Ashlyn Dacey contributed three goals while eight other Eagles got on the board with at least one goal each. Kathryn Stiltz earned a win in the net, saving just two shots.

The Eagles advance to the league semifinals and will face second seeded York (Pa.) on Saturday, April 27.
