ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. – St. Mary’s scored the final five goals of the first half and tacked on eight more in the second to overpower Frostburg for a 17-2 victory in CAC women’s lacrosse action, Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (5-7, 1-4 CAC) scored the game’s first goal for an early 1-0 lead and scored just before the midway point of the opening half to trim the deficit to 4-2, but FSU couldn’t keep pace with the Seahawks offensively.
Emily Shafer scored all three of her goals in the first half as St. Mary’s (6-9, 2-3 CAC) jumped out to a 9-2 lead at intermission. The hosts outscored Frostburg 8-0 in the second half for a 17-2 final.
Bobcat sophomore Jessica Jones scored the game’s first goal at 27:36, and senior Chelsea Feeney scored with 18:44 left in the first for the Bobcat’s only two goals. Senior Taylor Cassatt assisted both Bobcat goals. Senior Naomi Swann stopped 13 shots in the net.
Shafer finished with three goals and five assists, while Christy Bishop scored four times and handed out on assist to power St. Mary’s. The Seahawks held a 37-10 edge in shots and were nearly perfect, 11-of-12, on clear attempts. Three different keepers totaled seven saves in the win.
FSU returns to action as they host non-conference opponent Goucher College on Tuesday, April 16 for a 4:00 pm contest.
