Bobcats Thwarted By Fourth-Ranked Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – The Frostburg State baseball team once again reared its inconsistent head in the series opener against CAC adversary Salisbury as it fell to the Sea Gulls without contest, 22-1.

Box Score

The Bobcats (13-9, 2-5 CAC) looked strong out of the gates as Doug Politz set the first three Seagulls down in order in the top of the first.

Frostburg managed to keep Salisbury (16-4, 5-2 CAC) off of the board through the first two innings before the wheels began to loosen for the Bobcats.

The Sea Gulls finally broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third, plating two runs on a two-out single by Quinn Griffith.

The wheels would eventually come off in the very next inning as Salisbury added another six runs, with the aid of three Bobcat errors, to bump its lead to 8-0.

The Frostburg hitters were able to consistently square-up pitches from opposing starter Andrew Levy throughout the day, but the Sea Gull defenders fielded their positions soundly, negating all opportunities for the Bobcats to get any momentum.

The Sea Gulls did the majority of their damage with two outs on the day, scoring 15 of their 22 runs with one out left to be recorded.

In a bright spot for FSU, freshman Zach Lawhorn gained some quality experience as he finished out the final two innings on the mound without giving up a run on just three hits.

Politz suffered his first loss of the season on the bump for FSU, allowing eight runs, three of which were earned while striking out six.

Senior Garrett Price finished the day a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate for the Bobcats, as he was the lone Bobcat with multiple hits. Kevin Kean was also able to extend his hitting streak to 20 games in the loss.

Fortunately for the Bobcats the weekend is not yet lost as they still have an opportunity to bounce back and take the final two games of the conference series. Those two games will take place today at noon at Salisbury Field as FSU will once again be the home team for the away doubleheader.
