Second Half Rally Falls Short, Women’s Lacrosse Loses to Saint Vincent

FROSTBURG, Md. – Despite outscoring Saint Vincent 5-2 to open up the second half, the Bearcats slid past Frostburg State for a 15-13 victory, on a snowy Wednesday afternoon.

The Bobcats (3-4) and Saint Vincent (5-2) battled to gain control in the opening minutes of the game. The Bearcats found the first goal while FSU answered back with two scores by senior Taylor Cassatt and junior Megan White. Saint Vincent tied it back up at 2-2, but the Bobcats took the lead back from an unassisted goal by Cassatt at 22:09 left in the first half.

Saint Vincent regained the momentum, netting six straight unanswered goals to notch an 8-3 advantage just inside five minutes left in the first half.

FSU scored three goals to Saint Vincent’s one to end the half at 9-5.

The Bobcats struck first to open the second half as seniors Katelyn Kesecker linked up with Chelsea Feeney to bring the game within three, 9-6, at 24:42.

Refusing to relinquish its lead, SVC battled back for two more goals.

The Bobcats put together a nice 4-0 run, three of which were powered by Kesecker and one by Emily Walker who was assisted by Rachel Dwyer to bring the game within one, 11-10 at 10:33.

FSU couldn’t snatch the lead, however, as the Bearcats would score four straight goals. Despite scoring the last three scores of the contest, the Bobcats ran out of time and the game was finalized at 15-13.

Six Bobcats got on the scoreboard, led by Kesecker who ended with four goals, an assist and two ground balls. Cassatt, White, Feeney and Walker all donated two goals apiece.

Senior Naomi Swann suffered her fourth loss of the year, mustering seven saves in the defeat.

The Bearcats were led by Alyssa Lang who had a game-high six goals. Michelle Mitchell earned a win in just six saves.

The Bobcats are back in action this weekend, March 30, when they host non-conference opponent Southern Virginia for a 2:00 pm contest.
