Women’s Lacrosse Rolls to First Victory of the Season

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State University women’s lacrosse team rolled past Bridgewater College, 18-11, to grab its first victory of the season, Saturday afternoon.

FSU (1-1) was a powerhouse on the offensive end as seven players registered at least one goal in the contest including three Bobcats who scored at least three goals each.

The Bobcats took the lead right out of the gate racking up a 4-0 edge over the Eagles in the first ten minutes of the contest. Senior Chelsea Feeney notched the first goal of the day at 26:26. Junior Megan White joined in on the action just a minute later as Feeney dished one to her to put FSU up 2-0. Feeney would continue her offensive involvement as she assisted classmate Katelyn Kesecker for back-to-back goals to give the Bobcats the 4-0 advantage.

After three scoreless minutes, Taylor Chamberlain got Bridgewater on the board, 4-1, at 17:01 when she found the net.
With the score at 6-2 in favor of the Bobcats, the hosts strung together a series of goals to bring the game within two at 10:16. Senior Taylor Cassatt cut the Eagle run 30 seconds later as she threw one past the Bridgewater keeper. Junior midfielder Malory Brunett then notched her second goal of the first half at 8:57 off a free position shot.

As time ticked down, it seemed as if FSU would head into halftime up four, but Bridgewater gave a last second effort to find one last goal in the final seconds to post the halftime score at 8-5.

Bridgewater continued the momentum after the half as it scored two quick hits in the first three minutes of the second frame.
Although additional goals would trade back and forth, the game was sealed when the Bobcats went on a 6-0 run to take a 15-9 advantage with 14:42 left to play.

The visitor run proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome as the final score would be posted at 18-11.
Kesecker led the Bobcats in scoring with five goals and three assists. Cassatt wasn’t far behind as she ended with four goals. Brunett contributed three of her own while White and sophomore Kaitlyn Dudley donated two scores each.

FSU junior Karoline Miller racked up four saves in her first win of the season.

Bridgewater was led by Chamberlain who finished with four goals and three assists.

FSU hosts its first home game of the season as it faces Goucher College on March 6 for a 4:00 pm contest.
