Bobcats Split with Mount Aloysius on Final Day of the Season

CRESSON, Pa. – The Frostburg State offense pounded 13 hits in game one to cruise to a 9-3 victory, before dropping the nightcap to the Mounties 7-5.

Game 1

Game 2

Frostburg slugged 12 of their 13 hits in the first four innings to give them a big 9-2 edge.  Adam Baxley had an RBI single and Daniel Jester had an RBI double in the
second and both players also came around to score when John Northam reached on error by the Mountie defense.

In the third, Pat Sapp drove in John Barrett, who doubled to lead off the inning, on a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Bobcats scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning on a two out rally.  Northam and Torian Cyrus both singled before Barrett knocked in Northam with a single of his own.  Doug Anuszewski followed with a two-run double and Adam Summerfelt drove in Anuszewski with a two-bagger.

Starter Doug Politz surrendered two runs in the third, but sent down the Mounties in order in the fourth and the fifth.  Mount Aloysius tacked on a third run in sixth, but AJ Rosenthal got the final four outs for Frostburg without giving up a hit.

Mount Aloysius took an early 6-0 lead in game two, and hung on to defeat the Bobcats 7-5.  Senior Zach O’Dell went the distance for Frostburg, giving up seven runs in six innings pitched, but only four were earned.

Anuszewski pulled Frostburg to within four in the fourth inning with a two-run homer, and the Bobcats continued their momentum in the fifth by scoring two more runs to make the score 6-4.  Three straight extra base hits did the damage for FSU.  Baxley hit a one-out double and Jester followed with a triple, before Shane Boyd brought him in with a double.

The hosts added to their lead with a run in the fifth.  The Bobcats cut the lead to 7-5 in the seventh inning, but their late inning rally was cut short.  Matt Donaldson had a pinch hit triple and scored on a wild pitch for the visitors.  Jester singled and Northam singled later in the inning to put the tying run on base, but Stephen Hickey got back-to-back outs to end the game.

Barrett had four hits on the day and Baxley went 3-for-5 to lead the Bobcats in the split.

FSU closes the season with a 22-20 record and a 10-8 record in the Capital Athletic Conference.
