FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women’s lacrosse team led by as many three goals in the second half but couldn’t hang on in a 13-12 loss to Marymount, Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats fall to 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference with their fourth-straight loss. The win pushes Marymount’s overall record to 4-7 and 3-3 in the league.
Frostburg built a three-goal lead, 11-8, with just over five minutes gone by in the second half, but couldn’t hang on as Marymount closed out the game on a 5-1 run for the win.
The two teams battled back and forth in the opening half of play as neither led by more than one goal. Sophomore Katelyn Kesecker scored the final goal of the first half with 48 seconds remaining for the Bobcats as they emerged with an 8-7 lead at the break.
FSU sophomore Malory Brunett scored just over a minute into the second half as Frostburg led by two 9-7. Marymount answered with a goal at 25:54, but junior Chelsea Feeney scored at 25:05 and Brunett added her third and final goal at 24:18 as FSU held the game’s largest lead at 11-8.
However, the Saints scored three straight to knot the contest at 11-11 with 12: 08 to play. Bobcat freshman Emily Walker halted the MU momentum as she scored off a pass from sophomore Megan White to give Frostburg a 12-11 lead with just 6:51 to play.
In the end, Marymount proved too much as it tied the game at 12-12 at 6:26 and Cecilia Pasquale scored the game winner with a little over five minutes left in the second half.
Kesecker finished with three goals and two assists for the Bobcats while Brunett chipped in three goals. Senior Ali Kapustin scored twice and had one assist while Feeney had one goal and two assists. Junior keeper Naomi Swann made seven saves in the loss.
Tancy Weatherford scored four goals and handed out one assist for the Saints. Megan McGuirk finished with three goals and one assist. Kiki Niebuhr stopped 13 saves, including eight in the second half to help preserve the victory.
Both squads attempted 29 shots each while Marymount held a slim 15-12 edge in draw controls.
FSU travels to Stevenson this Wednesday for a CAC contest at 3:30 pm.
