FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State offense erupted for 16 runs and a season-high 19 hits in a crucial 16-5 Capital Athletic Conference over the St. Mary’s (Md.) Seahawks at Bob Wells Field.

After both teams were held scoreless after two innings the Bobcats tacked on three runs in both the third and fourth innings and added two more in the fifth for an 8-0 advantage.
With one out in the third, J.K. Filauro reached on an error and was doubled home by John Barrett to open the scoring. After a groundout by Pat Sapp, Doug Anuszewski, Adam Summerfelt, and Jon Keeler hit three straight singles to drive in the Bobcats final two runs.
Starter Doug Politz struck out the side in the fourth and the Bobcats added three more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Shane Boyd led off with a single up the middle and advanced to third on two wild pitches. Leadoff man Torian Cyrus walked and Filauro bunted him into scoring position for the inning’s first out. With first base open Barrett was intentionally walked and Sapp followed with a sacrifice fly to the left fielder. Anuszewski was then hit by a pitch, bringing up Summerfelt who smacked a two-run single to right and gave the hosts a 6-0 advantage.
The Frostburg offense didn’t let up adding two runs in the fifth, five in the seventh, and three more in the eighth.
Politz got the win throwing 7 2/3 innings and giving up two earned runs and striking out 12 Seahawks. Mike Victory took the loss for St. Mary’s (Md.) after giving up eight runs and ten hits in 4 1/3 innings pitched.
Tyler Hawthorne relieved Politz in the eighth and Cody Ellsworth got the final two outs of the game for Frostburg.
Summerfelt, Barrett, Anuszewski, and Boyd all had three hits on the day to power the Bobcat attack. Barrett picked up three RBIs on the day and added a double and triple. Both Anuszewski and Summerfelt both had two driven in and Cyrus, Filauro, Keeler, and Mike Virbickis also collected an RBI.
Both teams return to Bob Wells Field tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
