SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Sophomore Megan White scored four goals and sophomore Malory Brunett added three goals and two assists but it wasn’t enough as the Frostburg State University women’s lacrosse team suffered an 18-9 defeat to Susquehanna, Tuesday afternoon.

Box Score

Susquehanna, who remains undefeated on the season at 10-0, raced out to a 10-1 lead less than 10 minutes into the game and never looked back. The Crusaders sandwiched a pair of 5-0 runs around a Frostburg goal for the 10-1 edge at 20:35.

Brunett found sophomore Katelyn Kesecker for the Bobcats’ (4-8) first goal of the contest at 24:54. Brunett scored her first goal at 20:23 to stop the second 5-0 run from Susquehanna and cut the deficit to 10-2.

After the Crusaders scored three more goals for a 13-2 lead, White handed FSU some momentum heading into the locker room. She scored three-straight goals over the final 10:37 of the first half and the Bobcat defense held the hosts scoreless over the remainder of the period as FSU trailed 13-5 at the break.

Frostburg fared better in the second half scoring four goals and allowing Susquehanna to find the net just five more times. However, the Bobcats were unable to draw any closer than nine goals.

Brunett scored a pair of free position goals, while White scored off a pass from senior Ali Kapustin (12:41). Kesecker scored an unassisted goal with 1:05 left to bring the final to 18-9.

Susquehanna held a 36-18 advantage in shots, including a 24-6 edge in the decisive first half. The Crusaders also took advantage of a 22-7 edge in draw controls.

White’s four goals mark the third time this season that she has scored four or more goals in a contest. Brunett’s three goals now give her 15 over the last four games and she leads the team with 39 points this season. Junior keeper Naomi Swann turned away 14 shots, her second best effort of the season, including eight saves in the opening half.

Susquehanna received a goal from seven different players while Emma Ehler led the charge with three goals and two assists.

The Bobcats return to action on Saturday when they travel to Marymount for a CAC contest at 1:00 pm.
