YORK, Pa. – York tallied three runs on three hits and benefited from three Bobcat errors in the fifth inning Saturday afternoon to earn a 5-1 Capital Athletic Conference victory over the Frostburg State baseball team at Jaquet Field.

The Bobcats (13-10, 5-5) missed a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the fifth after Shane Boyd singled and stole second. Adam Baxley attempted to bunt Boyd to third, but was unsuccessful as the catcher threw to third for the out.
Colbe Herr led off the crucial fifth inning for the Spartans with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nic Long. With one out, Colin Porter singled and advanced all the way to third base on two throwing errors by FSU. Herr scored on the play to give York the 1-0 lead. Starter Doug Politz walked the next batter, and Jimmy King followed it up with an RBI bunt single to score Porter. King and Dustin Worthman both advanced a base on a wild pitch and Worthman later scored on a Frostburg error. Politz struck out Drew Frankenfield to end the Spartan rally.
FSU responded with a run in the top of the sixth. Adam Summerfelt reached on error to start the inning and John Barrett and Doug Anuszewski hit back to back singles to score Summerfelt. Barrett and Anuszewski advanced to second and third on a wild pitch with only one out, but York starter Tommy Moran retired the next two Bobcats to get out of the jam.
The Spartans (9-12, 5-5) added to their lead with runs in the sixth and eighth innings.
Frostburg had a chance to cut the lead in the seventh after Matt Donaldson singled and Torian Cyrus was hit by a pitch. Pat Sapp flew out to right, but both runners tagged and advanced with two outs. York reliever KC Beshore got Summerfelt to groundout to end the inning.
Politz threw six innings and gave up only one earned run in the loss, while Moran threw 7 1/3, struck out six, and gave up no earned runs to get the victory. Tristen Beyer relieved Politz, tossing two innings and gave up just one unearned run.
The Frostburg lineup was led by John Barrett, who had two hits on the afternoon and Anuszewski had FSU’s only RBI.
The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow at Jaquet Field with first pitch slated for 12:00 p.m.
