Barrett Stays Hot in Win Over Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – John Barrett went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a homer, and five RBIs to lead the Frostburg State baseball team to a 7-4 Capital Athletic Conference win at Mary Washington.

Starter Doug Politz threw six innings and struck out seven Eagle hitters to move to a perfect 3-0 on the season. 

The Bobcats rallied from an early 1-0 deficit after the first inning and scored a run in both the second and third innings before adding two more runs in the fourth inning to give them a comfortable 4-1 lead.

Matt Donaldson drove in Doug Anuszewski for the first run of the day for Frostburg on an RBI fielder’s choice, and Anuszewski hit his second double of the afternoon in the third to plate Garrett Price who singled to left earlier in the inning.  In the fourth, Barrett smacked a two-run double to left to score Torian Cyrus and Adam Summerfelt.

Frostburg added to their lead in the sixth when Barrett hit his second double of the day to score Cyrus who led off the inning with a single to left. 

Mary Washington cut the lead to 5-2 in the sixth, but Barrett’s two-run bomb in the eighth gave FSU a commanding 7-2 lead. 

The Eagles didn’t go down easy in the ninth, scoring two runs off of Frostburg reliever Zach O’Dell, before AJ Rosenthal got the final out for his fifth save of the season. 

With the win Frostburg improved to 10-6 overall and 3-3 in the CAC.  FSU continues their road trip tomorrow when they take on the Guilford Quakers at 3:00 p.m.
