Bobcats Score Early In 22-2 Win Over West Virginia Wesleyan

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team scored three goals in the opening two minutes and never let up en route to a 22-2 victory over NCAA Division II West Virginia Wesleyan, Wednesday.

Junior Chelsea Feeney found the back of the net just 18 seconds into action for the Bobcats that improved to 3-2 with the win. Classmate Taylor Cassatt scored 16 seconds later and FSU raced out to an 11-0 lead with 11:21 remaining in the opening half.

After Wesleyan (2-5) scored back-to-back goals, FSU collected 11-straight goals over the remainder of the game for the victory. The Bobcats scored the final four goals of the first stanza to lead 15-2 at intermission.

Eight different Bobcats scored a goal in their second 20-goal game of the season. Feeney led all players with three goals and three assists for a season-high six points. Cassatt and sophomore Megan White finished with five goals each. It was White's second five-goal effort this year while all five of Cassatt's goals came in the first half.

Sophomore Katelyn Kesecker was the fourth Bobcat with at least five points as she scored three goals and handed out two assists. Junior Rachel Dwyer netted three goals and sophomore Malory Brunett had one goal and one assist. Junior Myra Derbyshire and freshman Jessica Jones added solo goals while freshman Kaitlyn Dudley handed out one assist.

Junior keeper Naomi Swann needed just three first half saves for her third win of the season. Sophomore Cianna Lawrence led the Bobcats with four caused turnovers and three draw controls.

FSU returns to Capital Athletic Conference play this Saturday when they host No. 15 Mary Washington at 4:00 pm.
