CORZET, Va. – The Frostburg State baseball team upped its record to 4-1 on the young season after beating Old Westbury 8-6 and 6-4 in a doubleheader on the campus of West Albemarle High School.

Game 1

Game 2

Old Westbury scored two runs to open the first game, but the Bobcats answered with three runs in the bottom of the first.  Matt Donaldson singled and Pat Sapp to set it up for John Barrett, who drove in both with a double to left center.  Barrett later scored on an RBI groundout by Doug Anuszewski.

Barrett struck again in the third with an RBI triple and was driven in by an Anuszewski sac fly.

The Bobcats added two more runs in the fifth before Old Westbury crawled back in it in the sixth with three runs on four hits to make the score 7-6.  Frostburg added an insurance run in the sixth as Anuszewski drove in his fourth run of the game on a groundout to third.

AJ Rosenthal slammed the door in the seventh to earn the save.

Old Westbury jumped out to an early lead again in the second game, but the Bobcats took back the lead in the bottom of the second.  Tyler Hawthorne walked and Jon Keeler blasted a double to the left field wall to start the inning.  Hawthorne scored on a wild pitch and Keeler came around on a Daniel Jester groundout.

The Panthers took back the lead in the fourth inning, scoring two runs on two hits and three Bobcat errors.  FSU answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning on a leadoff homer by Hawthorne.

Down one in the bottom of the sixth, the Bobcats plated three crucial runs to take a two-run lead.  With runners on first and second Mike Virbickis laid down a bunt that was thrown away by the Old Westbury third baseman, allowing Torian Cyrus to score.  Two more Bobcats scored later in the inning on a throwing error by the second basemen.

Rosenthal pitched the seventh to earn his second save of the day.

FSU plays again tomorrow in the final game of the three game set with Old Westbury at 12:00 p.m.
