Salisbury Scoots Past Women’s Basketball

FROSTBURG, Md. - Salisbury used some long first half runs to take control of the game and defeat the Frostburg State University women’s basketball team, 66-52, on senior day and Play 4Kay day at Bobcat Arena.

Frostburg jumped out to an early 4-0 lead behind buckets by RJ James and India Hall, but Salisbury answered back with nine straight points in two minutes to take a lead they never relinquished.  A layup by Bobbi McDonald pulled the Bobcats to within two points, 11-9, but a 15-3 surge by Salisbury over the next six and a half minutes gave them some breathing room.

Elizabeth Erickson provided a quick spark for the Bobcats off the bench as she hit three of her first four shots to cut the Sea Gull lead to eight, 28-20, with 5:40 left in the first half.  Salisbury answered by tallying the next thirteen points, with Stephanie Straka finally ending the run with a three at the first half buzzer.

Salisbury used a 54.8 field goal percentage and 20-12 rebounding edge in the first half to take the lead.

The teams went back-and-forth in the second half until Simone Wise scored three quick points to cut the Sea Gull lead to 63-45 with 5:28 to play.  A Hummel layup at the 2:06 mark cut the lead to 13, but the Bobcat run ran out of time.

Hummel shot 5-of-10 from the floor and netted a team-high 14 points.  Senior Meische Cox led the Bobcats with seven boards, while Erickson chipped in 11 points and five rebounds.  Wise added seven points, all of which came in the second half.

Salisbury was led by Nicole Sisco and Katie McGahagan.  Sisco had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while McCahagan poured in a game-high 21 to go with seven rebounds.

Frostburg returns to the hardwood on Wednesday when they host Marymount at 6 p.m.
