FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Frostburg State baseball team dropped its Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader to Mary Washington, Sunday afternoon, falling in the first game 2-0 and dropping the night-cap, 7-6, on a walk-off single. Despite the pair of losses, the Bobcats have clinched the No. 2 seed in the CAC tournament.

The Eagles (21-12, 9-9) jumped out to an early lead in the first game, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Shane Sixsmith and Beattie Southerland successfully completed a double-steal in which Sixsmith was able to steal home. Southerland eventually came around to score on an RBI double.
After the shaky first, senior starting pitcher
Josh Davis (Hereford, Md./Freeland) was able to keep the Eagles off the board for the rest of the game but the Bobcat bats were kept quiet by the Eagles pitching staff.
Davis pitched a complete game depsite the loss for the Bobcats (18-10, 11-7), giving up just two runs, one earned on five hits while striking out five. Michael Straub picked up the win for Mary Washington, pitching six innings, giving up five hits while striking out six Bobcats.
The Bobcats got out to an early lead in the second game but could not manage to hang on. Junior
Garrett Price (Eldersburg, Md/Liberty (Emory & Henry)) singled to left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Classmate
Doug Anuszewski (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) put the first Bobcat run of the day on the board with an RBI-single to left to score Price.
Mary Washington answered with three runs in the bottom of the second and another in the bottom of the fourth, however, to jump out to a 4-1 lead.
Frostburg State battled back with five runs in the top of the fourth to get the lead back, 6-4. Junior
Adam Summerfelt (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and senior
Daniel Heatwole (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby) hit back-to-back singles to get the first two runners of the inning on. Senior
Scott Wilson (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) doubled to right field and brought home Summerfelt. Price followed with a two-run single to right to score Heatwole and Wilson and tie the game at four. Senior
Matt Greene (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) and junior
John Barrett (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison (Hagerstown)) reached on back-to-back infield singles to load the bases. Anuszewski got his second RBI of the game with a sac fly to to right field to score Price. Greene then came around to score on a wild pitch to give the Bobcats a 6-4 lead.
The Eagles got one back in the bottom of the fifth on a wild pitch to pull within one of the Bobcats. With two runners on and no outs, the Eagles tied the game at six in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double to right center. Trying to force a double play, the Bobcats intentionally walked the bases loaded, though the Eagles would take advantage with an RBI single to right field to score the game winning run.
Senior
Britton Quayle (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) took the loss for the Bobcats, pitching just the seventh inning, giving up two runs on two hits and three walks. Torey Mancari picked up the win for the Eagles, pitching one inning, giving up just one hit and striking out one.
The Bobcats return to action when they kick off the 2011 CAC tournament. The Bobcats are the No. 2 team and will host the No. 5 team, Wesley, on Tuesday at 3:30 pm. A full tournament preview and schedule will be made available tomorrow afternoon.
