Bobcats Impeach Presidents, 3-1

FROSTBURG, Md. - A pair of first half goals from junior Ryan Russell vaulted the Frostburg men's soccer team to a 3-1 non-conference victory over the Washington & Jefferson Presidents at soggy Bobcat Stadium on Wednesday night.

Box Score

Russell opened the scoring in the 27th minute. He cut inside a defender on the left side and blistered a shot past President keeper Pete Tomlinson to the far post. Just minutes before, Russell missed the goalpost by just a few feet to that side from almost the same spot on the field.

The Presidents (4-8) nearly tied the score in the 34th minute. Connor McKenzie ripped a shot that junior keeper Brian Kukucka slightly mishandled. Though the ball rolled ever so slowly towards the goal line, Kukucka was easily able to recover and keep the score at 1-0.

Russell gave Frostburg (7-1-4) an important insurance goal in the 38th minute off a free kick. He again beat Tomlinson to the right past the Presidential wall. He drew the foul that set up his goal when he was hauled down just outside the box.

Sophomore forward Michael Norman made it 3-0 in the 79th minute off a feed from fellow sophomore Raphael Adjeoda. The Presidents broke the shutout in the 84th minute as Jimmy Gante broke behind the Bobcat defense to round out the scoring.

Frostburg outshot W&J, 21-13. Russell led all participants with six shots and three on goal.

The Bobcats get back into Capital Athletic Conference action at Hood on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
