Second Half Flurry Ignites 4-2 Comeback Victory

ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. – The Frostburg State women’s soccer team entered the second half trailing St. Mary’s (Md.), 2-0. That deficit did not stand in the Bobcats’ way, however, as they rallied for four goals to defeat the Seahawks, 4-2, in Capital Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon.

After Seahawk Johanna Rambo scored in both the fourth and 23rd minute, Frostburg got to work after the intermission. Sophomore forward Adria Graham netted her eighth goal of the year in the 52nd minute and followed that up with another to tie the score 10 minutes later.

With the Seahawks perhaps still reeling from relinquishing a two-goal advantage, senior Cassie Donahue tipped the scales in Frostburg’s direction with her first of the season in the 71st minute.

In the 81st minute, Frostburg earned a corner kick. Junior Liz Seligman’s entry was knocked home by Donahue to push the advantage to 4-2.

The Bobcats (9-1-1, 2-0-1) outshot St. Mary’s, 16-11, for the contest and 10-5 in the second half. And although the shots were even at six apiece in the first half, St. Mary’s made the best of their opportunities.

Rambo connected off a pass from Lexy McCarty in the fourth minute to give St. Mary’s the early 1-0 lead. And she extended that lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute off a feed from Caryn Thompson.

Graham (7) and Donahue (6) combined for 13 of the Bobcats’ 16 shots. Senior goalkeeper Michelle Buckmaster earned the win after shutting out the Seahawks for the final 67 minutes of play.

Frostburg stays in CAC play as it hosts Hood on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
