With FSU trailing 31-27 late in the fourth, sophomore linebacker

Volpe finished 20-of-28 through the air with a pair of second half touchdown passes. He scored on FSU's second drive of the game on a three-yard scramble that handed the hosts an early 7-0 lead. King eclipsed the 100-yard barrier for the first time in his career and was the first FSU player to rush for over 100 yards since late in 2007. He finished with 103 yards on 20 carries and one touchdown late in the first quarter. He also led the Bobcats with six receptions for 48 yards.
Frostburg State finished with a season-high 352 yards of offense and capitalized on three CNU mistakes, including the game-winning scoring drive.
After a three-and-out on its first series, the Bobcats recovered a muffed punt return at the Captain 46. Volpe capped the nine-play drive with his three-yard touchdown scramble. On it's ensuing drive, CNU was held to just three yards on three plays and was forced to punt. However, FSU freshman
Zach Zile (Woodbine, Md./Century) busted through the line and blocked the punt and senior
Greg Simmons (Central, Md./Capitol Heights) scooped it up and raced 20 yards for the touchdown.
The Captains answered on the next drive marching 65 yards on seven plays and quarterback Matt Long found T.J. Foster for a 29-yard touchdown as CNU trimmed the score to 14-7.
The Bobcats answered with a 69-yard six-play drive of their own. Volpe completed passes to two tight ends on the drive, sophomore
Kevin Gordon (Columbia, Md./Atholton) for 35 yards and Zile for 25 yards, and King found the endzone from three yards out. The extra point was blocked and FSU led 20-7.
After both teams turned the ball over on downs on each of their next possessions, CNU put points on the board on their next two drives. Backup quarterback Christian Woelful-Monsivais hooked up with T.J. Foster for a 46-yard touchdown toss and Ryan Trotman kicked a 33-yard field goal late in the second as FSU led 20-17 at the break.
The Captains picked up in the second half where they left off in the first, putting together a 68-yard scoring drive that was capped when Keith Gaines scored from 10 yards out and the visitors led 24-20.
Frostburg State recaptured the lead late in the third quarter. After sacking CNU's Long on fourth-and-11 at the FSU 31, the Bobcats marched 69 yards for the go ahead touchdown. King darted for runs of 14 and 20 yards and Volpe found sophomore
Anthony Young (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) for 21 more as FSU had first-and-10 on the CNU 10. On first down, Volpe found Zile in the back of the endzone for a 27-24 lead.
Long led the Captains on one last scoring drive early in the fourth quarter as CNU assumed a 31-27 lead. Long connected with Antonio Epps for a 26-yard pitch and catch down the right sideline. Christopher Newport forced an FSU punt on the next drive and then the CNU offense slowly moved down to the Bobcat 17-yard line before Gaines fumbled the ball, setting up FSU's game-winning drive.
Long finished with 136 yards on 8-of-21 passing and two scores while Foster led all receivers with eight receptions for 196 yards and two touchdowns. CNU amassed 486 yards in offense, including 236 on the ground.
