Women's Lacrosse Uses Last Minute Goal to Defeat St. Vincent 10-9

LATROBE, Pa. – Junior Megan Dent-Carman (LaVale, Md./Mercersburg Academy) netted the game-winning goal with 29 seconds left in regulation as the Frostburg State women's lacrosse team defeated St. Vincent, 10-9, Tuesday afternoon.

In the first half, FSU (8-5) and SVC (2-7) traded goals and tied the game four times with the last at the 2:37 mark when SVC's Alyssa Lang scored a goal off an assist from Anne Roslonski to knot the score 4-4 at the break.

The Bobcats used a 3-1 scoring run in the beginning of the second half to hold a two-goal advantage over the Bearcats, 7-5, with just under 24 minutes left in regulation, aided by two goals from senior Lindsey Chaffman (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) and one goal from classmate Elisabeth Hildebrand (Frederick, Md./Walkersville).

SVC posted three-straight goals to take a one-goal lead over the Bobcats with 11:50 remaining in the game, 8-7. At 15:52, Megan Fisher netted a free position shot to bring the game within one and then scored another free position shot less than a minute later to tie the game at 7-7. With just under 12 minutes remaining in regulation, Lang scored her second goal of the game to give the Bearcats the advantage, 8-7.

At 11:08, Hildebrand netted her third goal of the game off an assist from senior Ali Zinnel (Chestertown, Md. / Kent County) to tie the game for the sixth time at 8-8. With four minutes remaining in play, Roslonski fed a pass to Lang, who netted her third goal of the game, 9-8.

Chaffman scored her third goal of the game at the 1:48 mark to tie the game for the last time 9-9 while Dent-Carman's last minute goal off a free position shot gave the end score and the win to the Bobcats, 10-9.

Hildebrand and Chaffman each had three goals for FSU while Dent-Carmen and sophomore Ali Kapustin (Columbia, Md./Marriots Ridge) each had two. Leading the scoring for SVC were Megan Fisher and Lang each recording three and Emily Fedor had two.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tori Butts (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) stopped 14 shots in the win while Bearcat goalie Jennifer Forsyth had 12 saves in the loss.

FSU is back on the field at home against nationally ranked No. 1 TCNJ Saturday, April 17th at 1:00 pm.
