Women's Lacrosse Defeated By Susquehanna University 16-5

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University netted 12 first-half goals as it defeated the Frostburg State women's lacrosse team, 16-5, to hand the Bobcats their third loss of the season, Thursday evening.

In the first 11 minutes of play, SU (4-4) scored seven-straight goals to take a 7-0 advantage over FSU (4-3), aided by two goals from Lindsey Derstine and Phoebe Nicholls.

The Bobcats netted two goals, one at the 16:09 mark and the other at the 15:36 mark, to cut the Crusader deficit to only five, 7-2. Five-consecutive goals over the next 13 minutes gave Susquehanna a 10-goal lead over Frostburg State, 12-2, but a last second goal by freshman Colleen Hoffman (Columbia, Md./Long Reach), gave the halftime score of 12-3.

Two goals from SU's Sarah Wright put the Crusaders up by 11 goals in the first six minutes of the second half, 14-3, but free position goals from freshman Taylor Cassatt (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) at 17:10 and senior Elisabeth Hildebrand (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) at 8:45 brought the score to 14-5.

In the last two minutes of regulation, Alexa Green netted two goals off assists from Wright to give the end score 16-5.

FSU led in groundballs (38-29) while Susquehanna led in both shots (27-24) and draw controls (13-8).

Hildebrand, Hoffman, Cassatt, sophomore Joanna McIntire (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and freshman Chelsea Feeney (Damascus, Md./Damascus) all had one goal for Frostburg State while Wright posted a game-high four goals for SU along with three goals from Ally Bauer, Derstine and Nicholls.

Sophomore goalie Tori Butts (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) picked up the loss for the Bobcats after stopping seven shots while Crusader goalkeeper Emily Stankaitis posted 13 saves in the win.

FSU is back on the field against Bridgewater tomorrow, March 27 at 4:30 pm.
