CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Senior Freddy Foshay (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) threw a two-hit complete game shutout as the Frostburg State baseball team ended its spring break trip on a high note as it defeated Washington College 13-0 Saturday afternoon.

Box Score

The Bobcats (12-5) are now 7-0 when they score 10 or more runs in a game and 8-3 after scoring first.

FSU came out in the first inning and scored the first three runs of the ballgame on two hits and a Washington College error. Senior Joe Garrity (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) drove in two runs with a single down the right side followed by an RBI single from sophomore Doug Anuszewski (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), his first hit and RBI of the game.

Foshay was untouchable through the first three innings with the only base runner coming on an error. The righthander did not give up a hit until the fifth inning when WC was able to get back-to-back singles. The Bobcat defense helped out their pitcher getting two outs on two fielder’s choices and from senior Andrew Derr (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick) connecting with sophomore Adam Summerfelt (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) to throw out a runner attempting to steal third.

The Bobcats added three more runs in the top of the fifth when Anusezwski picked up three more RBIs on a three-run shot to left field, his first homerun of the game. Foshay continued to dominate on the mound, shutting down the Shoreman in order for the next three innings.

In the top of the sixth, FSU put five runs on board to take a commanding 11-0 lead. Derr and senior Jeff Kroboth (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) led off the sixth with back-to-back bunt singles to get the first two runners on base. Summerfelt walked to load the bases and bring up senior Matt Ridenour (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown (Shepherd)) who doubled down the right field line and bring Summerfelt and Kroboth. Senior Joe Garrity (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) hit a sacfly to drive home junior Matt Greene (Westminster, Md./South Carroll (Hagerstown)), who traded places on the bases with Derr on a fielder’s choice. Ridenour scored on a wild pitch to clear the bases before Anuszewski hit his second home run of the game, this time an opposite field blast to right.

Summerfelt scored the Bobcats 12th run of the game in the top of the seventh on a passed ball and Anuszewski drove in his sixth run of the game and 13th FSU run with an RBI single up the middle to score Ridenour.

Anuszewski finished the day 4 for 5 with six RBIs and two runs. Foshay picked up the complete game win giving up just two hits and one walk with six strike outs and no runs. Foshay is the first FSU pitcher to throw a complete game this season.

The Bobcats are back on the diamond on Tuesday, March 23 when they take on Stevenson at home at 3:30 pm.
