Coaching the Cats
The Bobcats are led by Tom Rogish in his second season as head coach in the program’s 48-year history. Last season, Rogish guided FSU to a 3-6 overall record against agruably the nation's toughest schedule. The Bobcats led the ACFC in interceptions (12) and turnover margin (+2) and finished second in red zone offense (81.8), pass offense (182.7) and pass efficiency (138.1).

Rogish brought over 30 years of coaching experience to Frostburg State including 29 years in the collegiate ranks. He spent the last 22 years at the Division II level at perennial powers Indiana (Pa.) and Shepherd (W.Va.).

Prior to his arrival in Frostburg, Rogish spent two years on the defensive staff at Shepherd College. The Rams made back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament in 2006 and 2007 including a run to the NCAA Division II Northeast Region championship this past fall.

New Additions
This year, the FSU coaching staff has also seen some additions and changes that will bring new perspective and excitement to the all ready veteran staff.

Jim Crawley, legendary coach and avid supporter of Frostburg State athletics, rejoins the staff in 2009 and will be in charge of the kicking game. Crawley served as head football coach for seven seasons from 1968-74 and is the winningest coach in school history with 33 victories. Crawley coached 17 FSU Hall of Fame selections, including Bob Maddox, who was drafted by the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals in 1972.

Tom Vent, who helped the Bobcats in 2008, returns to the coaching staff in 2009 as the director of quality control. He will oversee all aspects of the team and will be in charge of gameday and pressbox organization. He will also serve as the chief alumni liaison, as he is an alum himself (Class of 1972).

Four-year NFL veteran Javin Hunter joins the Frostburg State staff this fall as the wide receivers coach after playing for both the Baltimore Ravens (2002-04) and the San Francisco 49ers (2005). While with the Ravens, Hunter helped the team to 26 wins and the franchises first-ever AFC North Division Title in 2003. Hunter will direct a wide receiver group featuring three returners that make up one of the finest units in the ACFC.

Jeff Rogish, son of head coach Tom Rogish, also joins the FSU staff this fall, brining a strong background in computer technology and video to the team’s efforts. He will direct the technology side of the staff and will also work with the tight ends.

Frostburg State Football History
Frostburg State is 224-231-8 all-time in the programs 48-year history.

Home Grown Talent
FSU’s roster consists of 114 players from seven different states. The largest number coming from Maryland (101) while neighboring Pennsylvania (6) comes in second.

Here is a breakdown of the FSU roster:
Maryland - 101
Pennsylvania - 6
Virginia - 2
Washington, D.C. - 2
Delaware - 1
New Jersey - 1
West Virginia - 1

All Purpose Player
The Bobcats senior wide receiver Avery Willie has proven to be the go-to-guy when the Bobcats want to move the ball down field. Willie has picked up a total of 317 all-purpose yards so far this season including 117 from kickoff returns and 143 receiving yards.

Through the Air
The Bobcats true freshman quarterback Phoenix Butler-Poole is coming off a successful start to his collegiate football career. In his first two games in a Bobcat uniform, Butler-Poole has thrown for 398 yards. Frostburg State looks to continue their successful passing offense against SUNY Brockport.

Almost There
Frostburg State junior tailback Anton Wade needs just 88 yards to eclipse 1,000 for his career. He enters the 2009 season averaging 50.0 yards per game and at that pace, should reach the plateau in FSU's trip to Widener on Sept. 26.

The Big Stop
JIm Lohr looks to build on his early season success leading the team in tackles averaging nine tackles a game. Lohr put up 10 total tackles against Washington & Jefferson including one for a loss. Along with his tackles, Lohr stopped the President's offense by picking off Washington & Jefferson's quarterback Gino Rometo in the first quarter.

Scoring Two
The Bobcats put their first points on the board on Saturday from a second quarter safety off a bad snap by the Presidents. This two-point score was the first one by Frostburg State since 2006 when it scored a safety in a 20-10 loss against Apprentice on September 9.

Total Offense
The Bobcats look to continue to exceed last season's average of total offense. FSU averaged 188 yards a game last season and has already increased that by picking up another 239 yards last week against Washington & Jefferson. Last Saturday's numbers increased season's average to 265.5 yards per game. FSU looks to carry that momentum against Brockport who allowed William Patterson to pickup 350 last week.

I'll Take That ...
Frostburg State has caused a turnover in 17 of its last 20 games.

Second Times A Charm
Coach Rogish will try and increase his win total in his second year at the helm after posting a 3-6 overall record in 2008. Seven coaches in FSU's 48-year history have increased their win total from their first season to their second. The largest increase in wins came in 1993 when Mike McGlinchey, who won six games his first season in '92, won 10 games and took the Bobcats to their first-ever NCAA Tournament.

Welcome Back
The Bobcat secondary returns six players from a year ago that helped the FSU defense lead the ACFC in interceptions (12) and turnover margin (+2).

A Win for Frostburg State Would ...
- Lift FSU to 225-231-8
- Give the Bobcats their second straight win over the Golden Eagles
- Hand Frostburg State a 1-2 record for the fifth time in school history
- Give FSU its 11th win over a team from New York
- Hand the Bobcats their third straight win over a NJAC school, since FSU downed SUNY Brockport 27-14 last season and Montclair State 17-14 in 2005.

A Loss for Frostburg State Would ...
- Drop FSU to 224-232-8
- Give SUNY Brockport a 13-5 series lead
- Hand Brockport a five-game winning streak against the Bobcats at home that dates back to 2001

The Bobcats Last Week ...
Gino Rometo threw for three touchdowns, including two in the second quarter, to guide No. 10 Washington & Jefferson past Frostburg State, 34-12, in non-conference action on a chilly Saturday evening.

The President's (2-0) scored on four of five possessions through the middle part of the contest to break open a slim lead over the Bobcats (0-2). W&J scored two touchdowns in the second quarter and two more in the third to break open a 7-2 ballgame. Rometo found Zach DeCicco for a seven-yard score (5:55) and connected with Craig Besong on a six-yard strike with just 1:26 to go in the opening half to take a 21-5 lead into the break.

FSU (0-2) got on the board with a safety early in the second quarter. On fourth and sixth, the ball was snapped over the head of W&J's punter Joe Kelly who recovered it in the endzone for a safety. Freshman Zachary Beukers (Frederick, Md./Frederick) later kicked a 25-yard field goal with 3:28 showing in the second.

The third quarter saw three-straight touchdown drives, including two from W&J. Washington & Jefferson opened the second half scoring with a seven-play 60-yard drive that was capped by a Terrance McAllister five-yard touchdown run as the visitors moved ahead to 27-5.

Frostburg State found the endzone for the only time in the game when freshman quarterback Phoenix Butler-Poole (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) plunged in from a yard out, capping an 11-play 80-yard drive, with 6:39 left in the third.

However, Washington & Jefferson extended its lead to 34-12 when Rometo tossed his final touchdown of the ballgame, this time a 32-yarder to Craig Besong with 2:57 left in the third.

The Presidents racked up 413 yards in total offense, including 215 on the ground as seven different players carried the ball. Derek Taylor led the way with 92 yards on 17 carries. Rometo made the difference as he threw for 174 yards on 17-of-31 completions and those three TDs. Besong led all receivers with eight receptions for 90 yards and two scores.

In his second collegiate start, Butler-Poole tossed for 166 yards on 11-of-26 attempts with two interceptions while junior tailback Anthony King (Germantown, Md./Northwest) ran for 75 yards on 16 carries. Senior triple threat Avery Willie (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) led all players with a 151 all-purpose yards. He caught four passes for 57 yards, returned four kicks for 87 yards and one punt for seven yards.

Defensively, sophomore defensive back Jim Lohr (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led all players with 10 tackles, 1.0 TFL and a first quarter interception. Ryan Breen led the Presidents with seven tackles, including 1.5 sacks.

The Last Meeting with The Golden Eagles ...
Junior Bryan Brosnan (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) threw for 194 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Frostburg State football team to a 27-14 win over SUNY Brockport in its home opener on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.

The win not only handed FSU its first win of the season (1-1) but first year head coach Tom Rogish his first career victory at the helm of the Bobcat program. The win is also the first in the series for FSU since its captured a 35-18 win in 1999 in Brockport, N.Y.

The Bobcats trailed 14-7 early in the fourth but three touchdowns in the final quarter handed FSU the win.

Brosnan finished 15-for-20 with both touchdown tosses coming early in the final quarter. Sophomore tailback Anton Wade (Baltimore, Md./Patterson) capped the afternoon's scoring with his second touchdown of the season late in the game to help seal the victory.

FSU got on the board first when sophomore Anthony King (Germantown, Md./Northwest) found the endzone from four yards out capping an 11-play 80-yard opening drive for the Bobcats.

The Golden Eagles (1-1) answered midway through the second quarter when Tamere Shannon hauled in a 25-yard scoring pass from Zack Luke as the visitors tied the game at 7-7.

The game remained tied at the half before Brockport took the lead on its second drive of the third quarter. Garet Lynch, who led all players with 155 yards on the ground, broke into the secondary and scored from 17 yards out as the Golden Eagles moved ahead 14-7.

From there on, FSU settled down and dominated on both sides of the ball. The defense did its part forcing two punts and picking off two Luke passes over Brockports final four possessions. Meanwhile, the offense scored three touchdowns in the final five possessions of the game.

After a freshman Kevin Mathews (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill) interception at the Brockport 48, the Bobcats needed just four plays to cover 48 yards for the game tying score. Brosnan rolled to his right and bought enough time to find junior wideout Ali Konteh (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern Hyattsville) for a six-yard touchdown with 14:54 showing in the fourth quarter.

Frostburg State took the lead for good on its ensuing drive when it needed just four plays to score another touchdown. This time FSU needed 71 yards to find the endzone and Brosnan fired his second scoring pass of the ballgame. He found junior Avery Willie (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen/Salisbury) up the right sideline for a 25-yard pitch and catch as the Bobcats took a 21-14 advantage.

Wade capped the afternoon when he crossed the goaline from nine yards out, capping an eight-play 56-yard drive. The extra point failed but FSU led 27-14 with 5:26 left in the game.

Brockport quickly moved the ball into FSU territory on its next drive. Luke found John Durkin for a 67-yard pass to the FSU 14-yardline. However on the next play, Luke was intercepted in the endzone by sophomore Terryl Monroe (Temple Hills, Md./Dematha) with just 1:33 showing on the clock to seal the win.

The one-two punch of King and Wade powered the FSU ground game. Both scored a touchdown as King led with 80 yards and Wade added 79 of his own. Junior Makiha Cooper (Baltimore, Md./Forest Park) paced all players with a game-high 91 yards on six receptions.

Senior Brendan Clancy (Ellicot City, Md./Mt. Hebron) had his name called several times on the afternoon as he made 10 tackles to lead the defense. Junior George Feiser (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg/Salisbury) made eight stops with a sack while senior Collin Clifford (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) made eight tackles in 0.5 TFL.
