Sapp Leads Baseball Past Allegheny

Game 1
Game 2

FROSTBURG, Md. –
Freshman Pat Sapp (Newark, Del./Caravel Academy) gave the Frostburg State baseball team all the power it would need in a 2-1 win over Allegheny (Pa.) as the Bobcats split a doubleheader with the Gators, Saturday afternoon. AC used a three-run rally in game two to sneak out a 3-2 victory.

Sapp gave FSU (2-6) all the run production it needed as he belted a two-run homerun in the first inning of game one, driving in senior Joe Clark (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle) who had walked to lead off the contest. Sapp finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBI's and one run scored.

Junior Freddy Foshay (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) held down the Gator (1-1) offense allowing just two hits over 6.0 innings. Allegheny mustered its only run in Foshay's last inning of work as leadoff hitter Aaron Lynch scored on a sacrifice fly down the right field line. Lynch had led the inning off with a double to set up the run.

Senior Gary Wolfe (Funkstown, Md./South Hagerstown) came on in the seventh inning to earn his first save of the season, while the win moves Foshay's record to 2-0.

In the second game of the day, Frostburg State was in control for most of the contest as the Bobcats managed single runs in the third and sixth innings, while senior starter Scott Eastment (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic) allowed no runs and scattered seven hits over 6.0 innings.

Sapp and sophomore Timothy Sutcliffe (Lansdale, Pa./Christopher Dock) each drove in a run for the Bobcats.

Allegheny would not go away as its bats came alive with two-outs in the seventh inning to tag Wolfe for three runs on four hits. The blown save gives Wolfe his first loss in a Bobcat uniform after finishing 2008 with a 4-0 record.

FSU returns to action on Sunday, March 8 for a single nine-inning contest against Allegheny (Pa.) in Frostburg, Md. at 12:00 pm.
