GLEN BURNIE, Md. – Sophomore Trevor Conner (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia/Kent School) silenced a powerful Stevenson lineup to lead the Frostburg State baseball team to a 10-5 non-conference victory, Thursday afternoon. The win continued Conner’s hot start with his second win in as many outings after he threw 7.1 innings and allowed just two runs on six hits.
The Bobcats (8-7) set the tone early by sending 11 batters to the plate in a six-run second inning. FSU managed four doubles in the inning, along with a two-RBI single by senior Joe Clark (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle). Classmate Teon Richburg (Baltimore, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) led the way in the inning with two well placed infield singles and a run scored.
Clark struck again in the third inning with a sacrifice fly to right field to score senior Michael Jester (Preston, Md./Colonel Richardson) for a 7-0advantage. The Mustangs (10-7) responded in the bottom of the inning with a single run after a leadoff triple caused when junior outfielder Jeff Kroboth (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) slipped on the wet turf in left field.
Jester brought the score to 8-1 in the fifth as he was drove across the plate with an RBI single off the bat of junior Andrew Derr (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick). SU did not go away though as they combined a double and hard hit single in the bottom of the sixth for a run to cut the deficit to 8-2.
Frostburg State capped its scoring with two runs in the seventh as Clark and freshman Doug Anuszewski (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) each had RBI singles.
After three late runs for Stevenson in the ninth freshman #David O’Brien# (Thurmont, Md./Mercersburg Academy) came on to close out the game and seal the win.
Clark led all Bobcats at the plate with a 3-for-5 afternoon and recording four RBI’s with one runs scored. Jester continued his weeklong tear with a 2-for-4 afternoon with four runs scored.
Kroboth continued to stay one step ahead of the competition recording five stolen bases for the contest. The five for the game brings his season total to a team leading 14 and gives him 11 for the week.
Frostburg State returns to the diamond for a marquee AMCC home matchup with Penn State Behrend on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 pm.
