CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Senior Michael Jester (Preston, Md./Colonel Richardson) led the Frostburg State baseball team past Washington (Md.) as he blasted two homeruns and drove home four RBI’s in a 19-12 victory, Wednesday afternoon.
The Bobcats (7-7) struck first as freshman
Pat Sapp (Newark, Del./Caravel Academy) and senior
Teon Richburg (Baltimore, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) each drove home a run for a quick 2-0 advantage. In the bottom half of the inning, the Shoremen (4-4) used two hits and back-to-back homeruns to take a 4-2 lead and knock FSU starter
Scott Eastment (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic) off the mound.
Sophomore
David Lanier (Laurel, Md./Atholton) came on in relief in the second inning to calm the WC bats as he allowed just four hits over the next 4.2 innings. Lanier allowed four runs, but earned the win as the Bobcat offense came alive to provide assistance.

Timothy Sutcliffe (Lansdale, Pa./Christopher Dock) to increase the lead to 9-6. In the sixth Sutcliffe was setup as senior
Andrew Sacks (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) and junior
Joe Garrity (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) both doubled, while Richburg added his second triple of the season.
Jester provided the power through the fifth and sixth innings hitting his two homeruns in back-to-back at-bats. Frostburg State managed two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth, while Lanier held the Shoremen to one run each inning to give FSU a 14-8 lead.
Senior hurler
Gary Wolfe (Funkstown, Md./South Hagerstown) came on to pitch the final 3.1 innings and put the game out of reach for WC. The Bobcats supported Wolfe with five additional runs over the final three innings with junior
Andrew Derr (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick) highlighting the scoring with a two-RBI single in the top of the ninth.
Washington (Md.) managed four unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth off three FSU errors in the inning to set the final score at 19-12. Wolfe earned his second save of 2009 by allowing no earned runs and striking out four, while allowing just three hits.
Jester led FSU at the plate with a 3-for-5 afternoon, while using his two homeruns and a double to accumulate four RBI’s and three runs scored. Sutcliffe followed close behind at 4-for-6 with four RBI’s and two runs scored.
Frostburg State’s leading hitter Derr also managed three hits on the afternoon with two RBI and three runs scored.
The Bobcats have now managed 32 runs over the last two contests and will look to stay hot as they face Stevenson on Thursday, March 19 in Glen Burnie, Md. at 3:30pm.
