Jacobsen Scores Two in Final Regular Season Win Over Franciscan, 2-1

Senior Steven Jacobsen
FROSTBURG, Md. - Senior Steven Jacobsen (Waldorf, Md./West Lake) scored both goals for the Frostburg State men's soccer team as it defeated its final AMCC opponent Franciscan University on Tuesday afternoon, extending its winning steak to seven.

After dropping the first three conference games, FSU (11-6-1, 7-3) has won its last seven to finish regular season play.

Jacobsen scored his first goal off an assist from senior Greg Bistany (Greenbelt, Md./St. John's College) 16 minutes into play to give the Bobcats the early lead, 1-0.

Just over a minute later, Jacobsen netted his second goal of the game, and sixth of the season, to hand FSU a 2-0 lead that it would carry into halftime.

The second half was dominated by the defense as neither team allowed a goal until Steve Duran scored off an assist from Patrick Mahon to bring Franciscan (9-7, 6-4) within one goal, 2-1. The Bobcat defense, however would hold off the Barons to bring the final score to 2-1.

Franciscan led in both shots (17-12) and corner kicks (5-2), but was not able to overcome the strong Frostburg defense.

Frostburg State junior goalkeeper Stephen Cavallo (Charlotte, N.C./East Lincoln) posted seven saves in his tenth win of the season while FUS goalie William Herrmann suffered the loss with six saves.

FSU will begin conference playoff competition on Saturday as it hosts the first round of the tournament at Bobcat Stadium.
