Byrnes to Step Down from Coaching Role, Remain as Assistant Athletic Director

FROSTBURG, Md. - After 24 seasons at Frostburg State University, Head Men's Soccer Coach Keith Byrnes will be stepping down from his coaching role and moving into his Assistant Athletic Director position on a full-time basis in January 2026.

"It's been a pleasure and an honor to oversee this program for last 24 seasons, and I am blessed to call Frostburg my home.", said Byrnes. "I would like to thank former athletic directors Ralph Brewer for giving me this opportunity and Troy Dell for allowing me to grow in this position and make it a career.  Thank you to Director of Athletics Rubin Stevenson for being my colleague for the last 24 years and giving me this new opportunity to be a full-time administrator and helping him guide Frostburg State Athletics under his leadership."

Byrnes finishes out his career as the program's all-time wins leader and most recently secured back-to-back MEC Tournament appearances, including the program's first home playoff victory at the Division II level. He will continue to serve as Assistant Athletic Director for Personnel in a full-time role, starting in January of 2026.

Said Stevenson, "We thank Coach Byrnes for his service to the Frostburg State Men's Soccer program, having helped our University grow into the Division II level. His experience as an administrator has been vitally important and we look forward to him further advancing in that role."

"To all the players, assistant coaches, and alumni I've had the pleasure to work with along the way; thank you all for what you have done for this soccer program.  Frostburg State is what it is because of the people involved in all facets of our athletic family. I look forward to helping transition Frostburg State men's soccer into a new era and can't wait to see their success." – Coach Byrnes
