FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State men's and women's swimming and diving teams posted wins over Bethany, Tuesday evening. The men's team defeated the Bison 154-32, while the women grabbed a 131-88 victory.
Both teams started the evening off with dominant performances in the 200-meter medley relays. Seniors
Mindy Yost (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) and
Michelle Nash (Columbia, Md/Hammond) combined with the freshman duo of
Arielle Harding (Damascus, Md./Good Counsel) and
Emily Harris (Laurel, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) to win the women's side with a time of 2:21.39.
For the men, senior
Charlie Reimers (Leonard, Md./Patuxent) was joined by sophomores
Bill Ford (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) and
Sean Samakow (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) and freshman
Eric Stinchcomb (Glen Burnie, Md./North County) to start the day off with an 11 second victory (2:06.01).
Junior
Thirza Roberto (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) led the Bobcat women with three individual wins as she took home first place in the 50-meter freestyle (29.93), 100-meter freestyle (1:14.50) and 100-meter breaststroke (1:24.17).
Nash added two first-place finishes on top of her relay victory as she won the 800-meter freestyle (10.47.60) and 200-meter individual medley (2:53.14). Harding also joined the two win column for individual events as she won the 100-meter butterfly (1:14.82) and 400-meter freestyle (5:06.26)
The men's squad was paced by sophomore
Nick Giambruno (Monrovin, Md./Urbann) who took two individual victories in the 200-meter individual medley with a season-best 2:53.51 and the 100-meter backstroke (1:18.75).
Senior
Jack Hudson (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) also had an outstanding performance to take first-place in the 200-meter freestyle (2:11.93) and 100-meter butterfly (1:10.67). Sophomore
Josh Green (New Market, Md./Linganore) rounded out the men with two individual victories as he flew past the Bison in the 50-meter freestyle (26.22) and 100-meter freestyle (59.82).
Sophomore Peter Lostcitto (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) won both men's diving events with scores of 135.50 and 178.45. In the six dive competition he edged out teammate
Mike Ashton (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) by just 0.80 points.
Frostburg State returns to the pool Saturday, January 31 when it travels to Pitt-Bradford at 1:00 pm.
