Melanie Bell begins her second year on the Frostburg women’s soccer team staff in 2019.
During her first season, junior Jesse Dunagan was named All-CAC Second Team under Bell’s assistance. Dunagan finished the 2018 season with five goals, 10 points and was one of three players to start all 17 games. She scored the game winner at Washington & Jefferson and tallied a second-half equalizer in the CAC Tournament against Salisbury. The Bobcats also earned their 11th consecutive ethics award. Frostburg earned the gold-level award for exhibiting fair play, sporting behavior and an adherence to the laws of the game. Frostburg was one of just 19 schools in the nation to earn the Gold Ethics and Sportsmanship Award.
Bell was a standout four-year playing career for the Bobcats. Bell was a three-time All-Capital Athletic Conference performer, while scoring 15 goals with four assists as a ‘box-to-box’ center midfielder. A Sykesville, Md. native, Bell appeared in 77 games in her four years and was voted team captain as a senior last fall.
Bell graduated with honors from FSU in 2018 with a double-major in law & society and political science, while achieving a 3.96 GPA.
During her senior campaign, she was named a Google Cloud Academic All-America as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and she was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region Team.
She recently earned the United Soccer Coaches National Diploma and is pursuing an MBA at FSU.
