Jimmy Schmitt enters his first season in 2013-14 as a graduate assistant with the Frostburg State University men’s basketball program.
Schmitt graduated from Felician College in May ’13 with a bachelor’s degree in math education. He graduated Summa Cum Laude, was a six-time Dean’s List student and SAAC Vice President. In his final year at FC in 2012-13, he served as a student assistant coach for the men’s basketball team, assisting with daily operations that included individual player workouts, recruiting, opponent scouting and gameday preparation.
As a student-athlete, Schmitt was a two-year member of the NCAA Division II Felician basketball team. As a senior in 2011-12, he served as team captain, earned All-Central Athletic collegiate Conference Academic and Capital One Academic All-District First Team honors. He was a two-time member of the NABC Honors Court, helped the Golden Falcons to the CACC Tournament in 2010-11 and holds the school record in assist/turnover ratio (2.38/2.00).
Prior to his playing career at Felician, Schmitt played for two years (2008-10) at Bergen Community College. He helped BCC to a pair of NJCAA Region 19 Championships and two NJCAA DIII National Championship Tournament appearances. He served as team captain in his second year and led the country in total assists with 231.
In 2012, Schmitt served as the head coach of the men’s U17 AAU New York Falcons. He led the team to the men’s U17 National Tournament and assisted with the development of two NCAA scholarship student-athletes.
Schmitt has also assisted with a pair of basketball camps over the last few years. From 2007-12, he served as the assistant site director of the Shooting Stars Camp, while he was the assistant camp director at the Hoop Group Skills Basketball Camp in 2013.
