Atreyu Austin

Atreyu Austin enters his third season as an assistant coach on the men's basketball staff for the 2023-24 season. 

During his time at Frostburg, he helped the program to two ranked wins, over #10 Fairmont State in 2022, and the other over #11 West Virginia State in 2023. He helped coach Jason Murphy to an All-MEC Second Team selection and Agyei Edwards to All-MEC Honorable Mention, while also having developed Edwards as the first 1,000 point scorer in D2 history at Frostburg State. 

Prior to Frostburg, he earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, while also being a part of the men's basketball team. In 2015-16, the team had one of their best-ever seasons, going 30-5 to win the Sun Belt Conference and win their NCAA Tournament First Round game over Purdue. 

After graduating, he spent time at Diamond State training to coach youth in the state of Arkansas. He also was a skill development coach on the Arkansas All-Red program under head coach Cory Jones. In 2019, he started an AAU program named the Arkansas Diamonds that compete on a national gauntlet. 

During the summer of 2023, he traveled the globe networking, working camps, and going to coaching clinics, while maintaining a pipeline with his Diamonds organization.  In the summer of 2022 he coached the Arkansas Diamonds to an 8th place finish on a national circuit, being one of the best rated offensive teams.  Over the summer of 2021, he taught basketball skills to some of the top players on the East Coast at Camp Grey Lock in Massachusetts. 

He earned his masters degree may of 2023 from Frostburg State, and plans to continue his education in hopes in receiving his strength and conditioning certification while still pursuing a career in coaching.
