Dassin Blackwell

Dassin Blackwell will begin his first season with the Frostburg football program in the fall of 2017 working with the safeties.

He spent the previous five seasons as the wide receivers (2011-13) and running backs (2014-15) coach at Towson.  Blackwell helped the Tigers to their biggest turnaround in school history with a 9-3 record in 2011. Towson won the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in 2011, captured a share of the CAA title in 2012 and finished as the conference’s co-champions and FCS national finalists in 2013. The Tigers made it to the FCS playoffs in 2011, 2012 and 2013 while boasting one of the conference’s best offenses over that span.

Blackwell spent the 2006-10 seasons at Division I Georgetown as the running backs and slot receivers coach. The Hoyas ranked third in redzone offense (87%) and fifth in rushing offense (117.3 yards/game) in 2007. Blackwell helped the Hoyas increase their scoring offense by more than eight points per game over his four-year tenure.

Blackwell served as the defensive backs coach at Hofstra from 2005-06. The Pride set a school record in 2005 with five interceptions returned for touchdowns on 12 total interceptions. Under the direction of Blackwell, Hofstra allowed 40 yards fewer passing yards per game. The Pride also recorded wins over nationally ranked Delaware and Massachusetts.

In 2004, Blackwell was the tight ends coach at Iona. He was also responsible for academic development and raised the team GPA from 2.31 to 2.59 in two years. Blackwell also assisted as the compliance and strength & conditioning liaison.

Blackwell has been a member and attendee of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) since 1998.

He graduated from Towson in 1998 with a degree in exercise science.
