FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Chanel Davis as its next Head Volleyball Coach.
Â
Davis comes to FSU having most recently served as an assistant coach at Division I Cornell University for the past two seasons, helping lead the team to a 29-20 overall record.
Â
"I would like to thank Athletic Director Rubin Stevenson and Assistant Athletic Director Nikki Lewis for welcoming me into the department and trusting me to be the new leader for Frostburg State's volleyball program.", said Davis. "Throughout the entire process, I felt welcomed by all staff members and especially having the opportunity to connect with the team. This is a great group that I am excited to get to know and work with."
Â
In her first season with the Big Red, Davis helped the team improve from a 7-16 record in 2023 to a 14-10 mark in 2024, earning a spot in the Ivy League Tournament and receiving the conference's Coaching Staff of the Year. For her efforts, Davis was named to the ABIS Volleyball Assistant Coaches Watch List. During the 2025 season, CU had another successful campaign, going 15-10 overall and another trip to the conference tournament.
Â
Said Lewis, "Chanel Davis brings tremendous energy, leadership, and a clear vision for the future of Frostburg State Volleyball. During the interview process, it was evident that her experience and passion were exactly what we were looking for. We are excited to welcome her as our new head coach and look forward to the impact she will have on our student-athletes and the program overall."
Â
Davis also has experience at the Division II level, where she spent four years as the head coach at CIAA member Winston-Salem State. She compiled double-digit win totals in each season, including a 17-10 mark in her debut season in 2019. Prior to joining the Rams, she was the head coach at Division III Wesleyan College. She also is no stranger to the Mountain East Conference, as she began her coaching career at West Virginia Wesleyan, where she spent time both as an assistant coach and an interim head coach.
Â
"Being familiar with the Mountain East Conference and its competitors, I am confident in the great things we can do to further progress this team. Previously starting my collegiate coaching career in this conference, I look forward to applying what knowledge I have learned over the years. I look forward to transitioning into this role and feel extremely blessed to continue to lead in a positive and inspirational way through my coaching. Let's hit the ground running, Bobcats!"
Â
She also has served at the club level, being the head coach of the Cape Fear and Tsunami Volleyball Clubs in Georgia. As a player, Davis began her college career at Division I Kennesaw State before transferring to Division II West Alabama, where she was twice named to the All-Gulf South Conference team.
