FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team cruised to a 32-1 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon.
Â
It took less than 30 seconds for FSU to get on the board, as freshman Avery O'Hara took the opening draw that allowed junior Gianna Leonardi to find senior Daniella Boss for the opening score. WVWC got the next draw but their possession wouldn't last long, as junior Maya Mosslih caused a turnover, with senior Neila Haney passing to classmate Sydney Stone to fire home before scoring herself just seconds later. Boss then forced another Wesleyan turnover as Leonardi netted a solo effort, followed by O'Hara scoring on a feed from freshman Delaney Burrows for a 5-0 score after three minutes.
Â
Mosslih picked up another CT in leading Leonardi to assist Burrows, then in quick succession, junior Julia Bannister scored off a free position and Haney dished to freshman Maddie Russell for an eight-goal lead. At the midway point of the period, WVWC stunned the home crowd, forcing sophomore Liz Amos into her first save before Ashlyn LaPlante scooped up the loose ball and put home for an 8-1 score. Helping to restore order, Mosslih caused another TO, with Haney finding senior Emily Lamoreaux, as Amos helped Frostburg stave off a woman-down penalty with a save. At the other end, Leonardi found Haney in transition for a woman-down goal, then another three efforts found the back of the net in the final four minutes, with Haney, Burrows, and Stone all firing home, as Leonardi provided assists to the latter pair for a 13-1 first quarter score.
Â
With the clock running throughout the second frame, FSU netted four times in the first five minutes, as Lamoreaux and Haney put shots home either side of freshmen Lauren Kunes and Chloe Zeruto each scoring their first collegiate goals. Mosslih then picked up a loose Wesleyan pass and sprinted downfield, finding Haney in front of goal, then sophomore Gigi Meyer provided her third assist of the day in finding Bannister for an 18-goal advantage. WVWC turned the ball over two more times, with senior Izzy Kelly causing one that led to Meyer netting her first goal on a feed from freshman Susie Riley for the latter's first college point, taking the halftime score to 20-1.
Â
Frostburg continued to keep their foot on the gas in the third, as Meyer scored in the first minute, while Kunes caused a turnover that led to Riley putting one home and senior Kylie Brigerman netting off a free position. Brigerman and junior Kelly Johnson then each picked up a CT, with the latter charging in on net to score her first career goal for a 24-1 lead. In the final five minutes of the period, Lamoreaux scored on a solo run before setting up Stone, while Bannister passed to Meyer to complete her hat trick as the lead stood at 27-1.
Â
Another fast start in the fourth allowed Riley to find junior Abbey Warner for the opener, with the former scoring herself three minutes later. FSU then was able to hold off a disadvantage off a penalty, as Kunes was found by Riley for the 30-goal mark. With just over six minutes to go, a misplaced back-pass from Wesleyan resulted in an own goal, as Kunes and junior Ali Raymond each caused turnovers defensively. Putting in the final score of the game, junior Emma Raville converted a free position, while freshman Kiera Pieper ensured WVWC wouldn't find one of their own by making a save, resulting in the 32-1 final.
Â
Haney drove the offense with eight points on five goals and three assists, while Leonardi and Meyer each put up six points apiece, combining for four goals and eight assists. Mosslih and Kunes led the defensive effort with eight caused turnovers and nine groundballs between the pair.

With the win, Frostburg improves to 8-2 on the year, while Wesleyan drops to 2-8. FSU will next hit the road to face Wheeling on Wednesday, April 1 at 3 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
