FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Lacrosse team fell at home 18-7 to No. 1 Adelphi on Sunday afternoon.
Â
After both teams traded turnovers to begin the game, AU swiftly showed their mettle of being back-to-back national champions, netting five goals in a three-minute span without allowing FSU a possession. A couple of penalties allowed the Panthers to net a pair of man-up goals before taking another face-off and scoring their eighth of the period. The Bobcats were able to get themselves on the board at the 4:26 mark, with junior Jack Hooks rounding the cage and firing home. Penalties remained frequent for both teams, with Adelphi able to take advantage of another man-up goal to take a 9-1 lead into the second.
Â
Frostburg struggled again with turnovers in the opening minutes of the frame but were able to get away a pair of efforts through senior Sean Mullineaux and junior Henry Sykes, while junior Jack Smith made back-to-back saves in net. Over the next three minutes, AU scored their fourth and fifth man-up goals of the contest before netting another two scores just inside six minutes to go, building their advantage to 13-1. FSU had a slew of chances to net their second, at one point being up three men on offense, but a trio of saves resulted in the Panthers keeping the door shut. Neither side was able to score again for the rest of the half, taking the game into the break.
Â
Each goalkeeper made a save to begin the third, with Adelphi continuing to pepper Smith's goal until scoring again just inside four minutes in. Hooks was denied on the doorstep while AU was initially stopped by Smith, however Colin Hansen picked up the ball on the ground and swept it into the net to go up 15-1. The Bobcats were able to generate some consistent offense over a two-minute spell, as Sykes drew a save and hit the crossbar, while senior Graham Allison put one off the post before graduate Tyrin Long finally was able to find junior Hayden Celio right in front of goal to put home. Just a minute later, another wave of penalties were followed by Celio finding junior Baylor Davis for a man-up goal, as through the final four minutes, each netminder made one save to go into the fourth with the Panthers leading 15-3.
Â
Adelphi took the opening face-off of the fourth and fired high before netting a minute and a half in, then a turnover allowed them to score another just 40 seconds later to lead 17-3. Junior Lukasz Barmosz was able to make a pair of saves, including helping to stave off a man-down minute, eventually allowing Sykes to find junior Luke Roach from the left wing for a goal. Two minutes later, senior Braeden Bushyager caused a turnover that led to Celio passing to Davis again and a 17-5 score. Each team traded goals a minute apart, with AU taking advantage of a Frostburg turnover while Barmosz made a stop that led to a freshmen connection between Alex Tyler and RJ Wilhelm to each pick up their first collegiate points. Over the final six minutes, there would be just one more score, as a man-up opportunity was capitalized on by Davis, who ripped home following a feed from freshman Keegan Green, with the final reading 18-7 Panthers.
Â
Davis netted a hat trick on the day, as Celio equaled him on points with a goal and two assists. Junior Ryder Walter led the defensive effort with five saves and five groundballs.

With the loss, Frostburg drops to 0-2 while Adelphi improves to 2-0 on the year. FSU will next travel to Walsh on Saturday, February 21 at 1 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
