Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

#23 Catawba Nets Early in Each Half to Defeat Women's Soccer

BOYDS, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Soccer team opened their season with a 3-0 loss against No. 23 Catawba at the MD Soccerplex on Friday night.

As both teams were taking the field for the first time competitively in 2025, things were balanced over the opening few minutes. Sophomore Mollie Rebuck had the first attempt of the game on a long drive from distance that bounced into the hands of keeper Jenni Dahne. CC then began to control possession and attacking threats, earning a pair of corners and seeing a shot blocked. It took just under nine minutes for the visitors to find their breakthrough, as Bree Ehmer threaded a pass through a pair of Bobcat defenders as Kylie Morin was clean in on goal with a tidy finish for a 1-0 lead.

FSU responded by winning three corners in 10 minutes, however they weren't able to get a shot away on any of them. Just under the 20-minute mark, Catawba doubled their lead after some great ball movement at the top of the box from Morgan Delair to Morin to Ehmer to put into the bottom left corner of the net.

As CC maintained their momentum throughout the half, Delair forced sophomore Mia Graff into a fine save to prevent a goal-bound blast, then Morin was denied by the post off a tight angle. Catawba held Frostburg without an attempt the rest of the half, taking things into the break at 2-0.

Just two minutes into the second period, CC thought they had their third, as Agnethe Vestergaard Heron broke clean through on goal, but Graff stood tall to keep the ball out. Rebuck came closest to getting the Bobcats on the scoreboard, as she unleashed another well-hit effort from deep, but Dahne was able to get just enough of her hand onto the ball to tip it onto the crossbar and out for a corner.

With 13 minutes gone in the half, Catawba finally got their desired third goal, as a cross from the left wing caused chaos in the Frostburg box, resulting in an own goal. FSU continued to get into their offensive third and earn corners, one of which saw sophomore Ainsley Wilson have a shot deflected wide, while classmate Ellie Fiedler put a header on goal that was grabbed by Dahne.

The remainder of the half saw the Bobcats get better chances to score than their opponents, as sophomore Elena Fernandez and senior Jayme Sooy each forced saves from Dahne. Graff shone again with a diving parry to her right to prevent Morin scoring a brace, then later did the same on an attempt from Ehmer. Neither side managed to produce much in the final 10 minutes, outside of sophomore Rayiah Davis firing just wide, with Catawba emerging victorious at 3-0.

CC held the shots advantage 15-10, putting eight on target to FSU's five, though the Bobcats had a 10-7 edge in corners.

With the loss, Frostburg drops to 0-1 to start the year, while Catawba begins 1-0. FSU will next have their official home opener on Wednesday, September 10 as they face Slippery Rock in Bobcat Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
