Senator Defense Keeps Men's Soccer Attack in Check During Home Loss

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team fell to Davis & Elkins at home on Wednesday night by a score of 2-0.

After starting the game off with a pair of early corners, the Bobcats gave up a goal off a misplay in the back for a 1-0 D&E lead. The early goal swung the momentum in favor of the Senators, who kept the ball tremendously well against the Frostburg pressure. Holding FSU without a real shot at goal, D&E eventually used a quick free kick down the left side for a nice cut-back with an even better finish to go up 2-0 in the 30th minute of the game. The Bobcats came closest on a flicked header following senior Mateo Cuadros' deep free kick, but it went over the bar with the score holding to halftime.

In the second half, play evened out for a competitive 45 minutes with Frostburg switching their formation to better match up with the visitors. Looking for goals to get back in the game, FSU had several opportunities to try and get attacks from corners and free kicks around the box, but none truly threatened the Davis & Elkins net. FSU went up a man in the 84th minute after back-to-back yellow cards from Patrick Alouidor, but there wasn't enough time to make an impact for the Bobcats. Frostburg's best chance of the half came on a late cross from freshman Michael James, but it was just out of the reach of a pair attackers, as classmate Nate Kennedy came closest to meeting it. Sophomore Jan Foret made a nice one-on-one save late on, though the contest ended with D&E taking the 2-0 victory.

With the loss FSU, is now 2-3-1 and 2-2 in Mountain East Conference play, with D&E going to 2-1-3 and 2-0-2. Frostburg travels to Point Park on Saturday, September 27 for a 1:15 PM start. For more information please visit frostburgsports.com.
