Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Held to 1-1 Road Draw with Wheeling

WHEELING, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Soccer team was held to a 1-1 on the road against Wheeling Sunday evening.

FSU started the game on the front foot, creating an early chance for sophomore Mollie Rebuck which was put wide. It would be Rebuck again with a shot 10 minutes later which went high and wide, while senior Mary Greco had a hit from distance that bounced into keeper Sam Faulkner's arms.

The Bobcat breakthrough finally came as Rebuck headed into the path of junior Madison Hinton, who unselfishly passed across goal to a wide open sophomore Cassidy Paige for an easy tap-in. Frostburg's lead didn't last long, however, as just three minutes later, the Cardinals scored on virtually their first attack, with Graceylyn Hanna finding Caryn Goins at the back post for a 1-1 score.

Paige nearly kept the offensive outburst going, hitting the crossbar on an outside-the-foot effort before Rebuck had a soft header saved off a throw. Senior Carly Gillette then put a shot wide, as did sophomores Elena Fernandez and Madison Hobson on three occasions. Junior Madison Hinton hit from deep but right at Faulkner as the half ended with honors even.

Frostburg came out firing to start the second 45, as Gillette and senior Morgan Mrizek both drew saves from Faulkner. FSU had trouble getting their efforts on target, as Mrizek, Greco, and sophomore Ellie Fiedler all had shots missing the mark. Hinton drew another Faulkner save, as did Rebuck from a close angle with a half hour left to go.

Rebuck and senior Hannah Clagett both had chances on volleys, but couldn't put them on frame. Sophomore Ainsley Wilson then tried her luck from deep but was right at Faulkner before freshman Emma Hostetler fired high. The Bobcats struggled to create much in the final 10 minutes, as Hinton tried to launch a ball into the box that was gathered, resulting in the 1-1 draw.

With the result, Frostburg moves to 2-2-1 on the year, while Wheeling is now 1-3-1. FSU returns to Bobcat Stadium on Wednesday, September 24 to face West Liberty at 5 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
