Second Half Goal Leads Senators to Win Over Men's Soccer

ELKINS, W. Va. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team dropped their road match against  Davis & Elkins by a 1-0 final.

After just one minute of play, FSU had a chance to open the scoring, as a cross from senior Jason Guevara found freshman Inzaghi Harmon, but he couldn't get his header on frame. It took another 20 minutes for the game's next shot, with graduate Mateo Cuadros firing wide, the sophomore Jan Foret, fresh off his MEC defensive player of the week honors, parried away D&E's first effort on target. The Bobcats got a look at goal past the halfway mark of the first quarter when sophomore Andrew Denard took an attempt that sailed high and right. The Senators stayed on the attack, looking for the game's first goal but Foret was there on two occasions. Following three corners and a pair of off-target Davis & Elkins shots, the game went to half with the score still 0-0.

The second half started with D&E getting into the attacking zone quickly, as Foret would punch a shot high to make a save in the first two minutes of play. Frostburg struggled to get into attacking positions, as they were limited to Cuadros having an effort go wide once more. The Senators would find their lone goal of the game 15 minutes into the half, as a nice pass across the top of the box was flicked into the path of Hugo Fauli, who found the bottom right corner with plenty of pace to go up 1-0. The Bobcats would have a great chance at an equalizer with just over 10 minutes to go, as a powerful shot from freshman Tristan Ruble cannoned off the crossbar. As FSU threw bodies forward, their only other opportunity would come with five on the clock, as Nate Kennedy fired right at keeper Charlie Phillips for the 1-0 score.

With the result, D&E is now 5-2-3 on the season while the Bobcats move to 3-5-2. Frostburg will travel to Concord on Sunday, October 12 for a 4 PM game. For more information please visit frostburgsports.com.
